Local Creative Youth Partnerships

Local Creative Youth Partnerships (LCYPs)

Building networks – joining the dots – linking formal education and out-of-school settings.

A key principle underlining the Creative Youth Plan is collaboration. We have established Local Creative Youth Partnerships (LCYPs) on a pilot basis in 3 Education and Training Board (ETB) areas around the country.

At their core these Partnerships are networks . They will enable information sharing, and collaboration between local creative youth service providers to bring about better use of existing resources  and initiatives in their area.

The Partnerships are an opportunity to forge new partnerships with local creatives, which complement the work of the formal school settings. The aspiration is they will act as change agents within their local communities, unlocking new ways of working and supporting the creative and cultural education of thousands of our children and young people.

Three Partnerships are being piloted:

  • Kerry Education and Training Board
  • Laois / Offaly Education and Training Board
  • Limerick / Clare Education and Training Board

By establishing and building these networks, we aim to:

1 - Develop collaborative plans across local communities and between schools and creative out-of-school activities;

2 - Facilitate and develop new local creative initiatives, targeting different groups more effectively to ensure wider coverage; and

3 - Avoid duplication of effort

Importantly, the remit of the partnerships goes beyond that of the “arts” and includes cultural and creative activity in all spheres (including areas such as heritage, STEM, entrepreneurship).  While the range of activities is limitless – everything from traditional and visual arts to coding and tech; music and opera to circus arts, comedy, street arts & spectacle; architecture & design to heritage; film, drama, theatre or dance to literature and creative writing.

In line with our key principles, the Partnerships will carry out an initial youth consultation to help better inform the Partnership in working out the details of their own work plan – it is integral that the voice of children and young people remains core to each Partnership.
